Food
We have been given the Sawdays Fine Food stamp.
If possible all our food is locally sourced, from the Farmers’ Market, local butchers, local farms or, in season, from our allotment.
All our bread and cakes are homemade, so are the granola, the yogurt and the jams and marmalade. The honey comes from a friend’s bees.
We hope you will enjoy it, but please do let us know if you have any special likes and dislikes and we’ll try to do what we can to help.
There is fresh coffee, a variety of teas and fresh milk in the cottage for you. In summer, you can also try our homemade lemon squash. Tell us if you run out.
Breakfast
Homemade granola, Jordan’s muesli, variety of cereals; Porridge made on the Aga;
Homemade yogurt with fruit coulis; Seasonal fruit compote.
Local apple juice; freshly squeezed orange juice.
Homemade wholemeal or white bread or rolls; American fruit muffins.
Homemade jams from allotment fruit, homemade marmalade, Somerset honey, Marmite.
Filter coffee, selection of teas.
Local bacon, Old English sausages from the Goods Shed Farmers Market, free range eggs, black pudding, tomatoes and mushrooms, potato cakes, or sometimes: Smoked haddock and poached eggs; Eggs Benedict; Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon; Boiled eggs; Kedgeree.
If you prefer, a continental breakfast can be served in the cottage, and on warm mornings breakfast can be eaten in our sunny courtyard garden.Evening meals
Because we are so close to the city centre with over 300 places to eat and drink, we do not provide evening meals. There are 3 restaurants within 100m (Chinese, Thai and Moroccan) and we supply guests with a list of restaurant recommendations here in Canterbury and in the surrounding area. We particularly like Deeson's British Restaurant, The Goods Shed Farmers Market, The Sportsman, and The Wife of Bath.
